No, for most of our clients the pain is minimal and is described less irritating than mosquito bite.
Unlike traditional tattoo, SMP does not cause trauma to the skin. Therefore, you will not bleed from the treatment. SMP is 100% Non-Invasive and Non-Surgical.
Results can be permanent, but over time the colour usually fades to a lighter shade. We suggest having a top-up appointment every 4-6 years to keep your scalp looking in top condition. Following a routine to maintain a healthy scalp also prolong signs of fading.
2-4 sessions. We gradually add density, allowing your skin to absorb the pigment. Each session can take anywhere from one to three hours depending on the degree of hair loss. Ideally, Treatment sessions are spaced apart by a minimum of 14 days to 30 days.
After each session, there will be redness in the areas treated. You can also expect some dryness and itchy scalp. We provide all the information you will need regarding Pre Treatment and After Care to help you with the healing process.
SMP shares the same method as Traditional tattoo. However, unlike traditional tattoo, SMP is deposited only in the upper dermal layer, so it is deep enough in the skin to make it permanent. The shallow application is what makes the SMP appear more like a hair follicle (or 5 o’clock shadow) and not a blob of tattoo ink. A traditional tattoo, on the other hand, is deposited deep into the dermal layer.
For SMP, we also use only organic ink/pigment (non metal), micro needles, and a low voltage tattoo machine. In addition, SMP does not cause trauma to the skin. This is why there is almost no bleeding will occur.
Absolutely! Though follicles are typically same colour as your skin, they do not appear the same colour in the root.
At Molave, we have the ability to colour match any hair type up to 40 shades of pigment colours.
Unlike traditional tattoo ink which contain a wide variety of constituents such as iron oxide, our organic pigments are made from just three ingredients. SMP treatments, when carried out with the correct materials, will simply become lighter shade over the years, which is why we suggest having a top-up every 4-6 years.
Scalp Micropigmentation (commonly known as SMP or micropigmentation) is a cosmetic tattoo that creates natural-looking hair follicles using micro needles and organic pigments. This gives the illusion of a completely full head of hair, closely shaved to a “buzz cut.” When this procedure is performed by a trained and experienced SMP practitioner, the results appear 100% natural.
At the time of your treatment, we will match your hair colour to our pigments for the perfect blend. However, if your hair does begin to turn grey, we can adjust the pigment shade on your re-touch appointment every 4 to 6 years, maintaining a seamless transition.
Grey Hair appears lighter when the hair is longer, but when shaved down, the root of the hair is actually darker. And as our pigments fade over time, you will find that going grey will not affect the appearance of your scalp micropigmentation treatment.
People with long hair can still benefit from this treatment. Although, a consultation would be required to determine if there is enough hair left for the procedure to look realistic.
No, you do not need to shave your head before each SMP session. We recommend you wear your hair at your desired styling length so we can blend the SMP into your hair. If necessary, we will buzz down your hair ideal for the treatment.
After 5 years your Scalp Micropigmentation hair tattoo will look a lighter version of how it did when it was first done. You can then decide if you want to have a short touch-up to return the treatment to its original colour when you first had it done, or you may reach a certain age and let it keep fading. Most Importantly, consistent maintenance is crucial when it comes to longevity of SMP. Very minimal upkeep is required, such as applying light/unscented moisturizer on the scalp regularly. Remember to use only what is recommended by your practitioner.
In the summertime, use sunscreen no lower than SPF 50 to protect skin from UV rays. Lastly, drink plenty of water. Not only is it good for your body, but also for tattoos as it keeps the skin looking healthy. Thus, making pigment look vibrant in the skin.
There is no downtime involved with our hair tattoos. Redness may occur with some clients and can last up to twenty four hours post-treatment. Clients usually return to work straight away and can wear hats should they feel the need.
SMP is a great solution for people who suffer from:
